Field Engineer Intern

The Field Engineer Intern supports activities for large-scale and complex renewable energy construction projects. This role provides hands-on experience across various phases of the project life cycle from engineering and designing to procurement of materials and through commissioning and project handover. The intern will work under the guidance of an experienced field engineer or other site leadership to gain practical knowledge of construction processes, safety standards and quality requirements. 

Education and Experience:

• Pursuing of has recently completed a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management or a related field preferred
• Previous internship, coursework, or hands-on experience in construction or engineering is a plus, but not required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Strong desire to learn and develop technical and professional skills
• Basic understanding of the concepts of Project Management, Construction and Engineering
• Experience in Microsoft Office Suite and industry standard software and tools (ProCore, NetSuite, Viewpoint etc)
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Interest in learning to read, interpret and analyze blueprints and other technical documents
• Understanding of construction safety and QA/QC standards and best practices
• Problem solving mindset with the ability to ask questions and seek guidance
• Ability to work effectively and communicate with a diverse team.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

• Support the implementation and promotion of safety standards on-site by following JMS safety protocols and demonstrating safe working behaviors
• Assist in surveying project sites, evaluating potential challenges and identifying site requirements based on job needs and client specifications
• Commission equipment, to include installation and testing of various site equipment and machinery
• Help monitor and document maintenance activities for site equipment and machinery
• Participate in field tests, identify and provide solutions for onsite problems that may arise throughout the project lifecycle
• Support the tracking and documentation of project progress to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of projects 
• Gain understanding of industry standards, environmental laws and health and safety regulations
• Collaborate with the Field Quality Manager and site management to understand QA/QC requirements, scope of the project, and Standard Operating Procedures
• Participate in Plan of Day (POD) meetings, including preparing materials and communicating information across teams as needed
• Learn to read and interpret drawings and technical documents
• Travel to jobsites as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Work Environment:

• This position involves both office-based tasks and on-site duties 
• When working at a job site this role may be exposed to site conditions such as hot or cold temperatures, outdoor elements, dust, fumes and loud noises
• On-site work requires adherence to safety regulations and Company policies 
• This role may include prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and/or working at a computer
